Trainings and Events
The Redistricting Data Hub is pleased to announce two new trainings on prison gerrymandering, in partnership with Brianna Remster and Rory Kramer of Villanova University. These trainings are inspired in part by their research on the process of reallocating incarcerated populations in Pennsylvania. They are currently extending that work to analyze the impact of prison gerrymandering nationwide at the state level with the new 2020 census maps. Adjusted datasets and accompanying reports are available on the RDH website.
- Part 1: Wednesday, March 9th, 1-2 pm ET
The first of this two-part training will be hosted by Brianna Remster of Villanova University. This training will cover the basics of what is known as prison gerrymandering: what it is, what the impacts are for representation and political power, and the possible policy remedies, including reallocation of incarcerated populations. This training is well suited for individuals who want to learn more about the practice and implications of prison gerrymandering. Register for Part 1 here. - Part 2: Tuesday, March 15th, 1-2 pm ET
The second of this two-part training will be hosted by Rory Kramer of Villanova University. This training will dive into the nuts and bolts of prison gerrymandering, and how the reallocation of incarcerated populations to their last known address works in theory and in practice. This training is well suited for individuals and groups interested in the technical details and data issues of remedying prison gerrymandering. Register for Part 2 here.
